There are a host of great science museums, medical facilities and hospitals in Chicago area which are well worth a visit. On the John Hancock Building’s ninety-fourth floor, a thousand feet above Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, you can visit the Hancock Observatory. Here is Chicago’s famous open air skywalk, where visitors have a spectacular 360 degree vista (and great photo opportunities) of Chicago, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin. The observatory’s talking telescope, the Soundscope, explains what you are seeing with narrations in English, Spanish, French and Japanese, complete with sound effects. The Skytours narrations in English, Spanish, and German describe sixteen Chicago attractions as seen from above. And don’t miss Hancock Observatory’s famous History Wall with over a hundred photos of the history of Chicago. Another user friendly technological hit is Windows on Chicago which takes you to over eighty famous Chicago sites. Don’t miss The Cheesecake Factory on the Hancock Building’s lower level as you leave!

The Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium are located on the Museum campus, on Lake Shore Drive not far from Soldier field and southern Chicago suburbs hospital. The Adler is the first planetarium in the American hemisphere, founded in 1930. Its 35,000 square feet of exhibit space features fascinating attractions such as state of the art computer technology solar system models, interactive exhibits, and galleries which provide a great introduction to space science and astronomy for both adults and children. The Adler’s collection of ancient astronomical artifacts and rare books interests professional astronomers and historians. Adler Planetarium is world’s only space museum with two large planetarium theaters. The original Sky Theater has been fascinating audiences with its recreation of the night sky for almost eighty years. The brand-new StarRider Theater creates a virtual outer space experience with its Digistar 3 simulator and Zeiss planetarium projector.

Chicago south suburbs healthcare facilities are also conveniently located near the Shedd Aquarium, the largest indoor aquarium in the world. The Shedd contains over eight thousand animals and fish of more than seven hundred species, brought from all over the world. From the Aquarium on the Museum Campus visitors can grab a water taxi to Navy Pier and visit its famous Time Escape attraction. Time Escape is an exciting ride through Chicago’s past, present and future which features three dimensional effects, state of the art computer graphics, robotics, live special effects and high impact motion simulation. Visitors enter the Time Escape observation deck where a robot introduces the adventure. Next, visitors enter the Jetway to the 3-D theater starting on Lake Michigan’s shores in the year 85 million BC; then move forward in history through human settlement, the 1871 Great Chicago Fire, the World’s Fair in 1933. The time then zooms ahead to the year 2333 to view a futuristic city of Chicago. The Time Escape adventure lasts about twenty minutes, and leaves every ten minutes.

If you are looking for a great science adventure, think Chicago! And if you are looking for a great southern Chicago suburbs hospital, think Riverside Medical Center.
